What Exactly Is A Backup Battery?
The Overhead Door Backup Battery is an add-on system. It can be easily installed to open and close your heavy garage door in the event of a power outage. The battery backup operates the garage door at 3.5 inches per second. Additionally, if the power is out for an extended period of time, the unit will run up to 50 cycles in a 24-hour period.
It is compatible with Overhead Door Destiny and Odyssey garage door openers, two of the most reliable and powerful openers.
How Is It Installed?
With several mounting options available, the battery backup can easily be installed by either an Overhead Door™ Distributor or the homeowner. It’s charged and powered through a connector cable between the opener and the unit. This eliminates the need to plug into an outlet.
The unit comes with an 8-AMP, sealed-lead acid battery (SLA). The battery will reach a full charge within 48 hours.

How Do You Check It?
A battery backup is only good if it works when you need it most. Check the battery backup every six months to ensure proper garage door opener function. Open and close the door under normal power, then disconnect the power cord of the garage door opener from the outlet. Press the button on the wall control or the remote control and ensure the opener operates, albeit at a slower speed. Reconnect the power cord after the test is complete.
If for any reason the battery backup does not work check the charge. If you know it’s fully charged or the motor head displays a red to yellow flashing light, the battery may need replaced. Contact us for replacements for the internal battery.
